SPOTLIGHTING AA AUTHORS

This next AA Author is very near and dear to my heart. She has known me longer than anyone, other than my parents. She is a great inspiration and motivation to me. She is none other than my big Sissy!!! I am proud, extremely proud of her. Her debut book called Bone of His Bones was just released this month, and it is a phenomenal read.

My sister is one of the sweetest people I know and when she loves, she love hard; so hard that she sometimes get taken advantage of because of her kindness. She is quirky, lovable, cannot dance to save her life, but we have a great time together. She is my number one fan and I am hers. The conversations we share, give me hope. We have laughed together, cried together, and everything else in between. Without her in my life, I would be lost. So, without further ado, allow me to introduce to you my big Sissy, a true woman of God, Shemica Shantal Huff! *she is gonna kill me for saying her entire name*

Meet Author Prophetess Shemica S. Huff:

1.       Tell everyone a little bit about Shemica
Shemica is a minister of the Gospel for more than 15 years with a call to serve others and help them reach their purpose and maximize their God-given potential.  She’s a mother and a Proverbs 31 Woman with a passion and heart to please God.

2.       How long have you been writing?
I have been writing since I learned how to write.  I love the rhythm and rhymes of words and the adventure of painting a picture with them, whether it’s of love, joy, or any other sentiment; I love the challenge of making my words speak life!

3.       What inspired you to write “Bone of His Bones”?
The inspiration to write Bone of His Bones came from seeking God for a godly mate one who is not only created in His image and in His likeness, but who is filled with His Spirit.  Many men and women have been introduced to God, but I want someone who truly loves Him and will deny himself to obey His word in Spirit and in Truth.  I cried out to God and I know He heard me and answered me on that night so Bone of His Bones is the very essence of who I am in the perfect will of God.

4.       Tell us a little bit about your book and what you hope readers will take from it?
The book is about understanding God’s will for marriage and how to live it in overcoming temptation and the straps of the enemy against it.  It is my vision that all who reads it will receive revelation and understanding of who they are in Christ and walk in the power thereof.
5.       What are some of your favorite things so that readers can get to know more about you?
My favorite scripture is Phil 4:13.  My favorite movie is “One Night with the King.”  My favorite color is pink because it represents the heart of flesh, intimacy, and right relationship.  It also represents God love for His children in providing for them.  When God revealed that to me in a vision, I woke up and gathered my books to research what had been revealed unto me by the Spirit of God.  My favorite favor book is Proverbs because of its wisdom.

6.       What are your plans as far as writing in the future?
I have two more books that I am working on now.  I would love to publish and encourage other aspiring writers in teaching them how to write fluently and grammatically correct in making their work flow coherently.  Also, I’d love to work with children in developing and encouraging them to write and not be afraid to express themselves.

7.       What do you hope to accomplish with your book?
Right now, I just give glory to God!  I would like to see it change the mindset of God’s people and have them get back to living the life God has called us to live without fear and unbelief.

8.       IS there anything else you would like to share for readers about your motivation and inspiration with not just your book but in your everyday life?
I get up every morning with thanksgiving and with the intent to please God even though I fall, I do not allow condemnation to keep me from fulfilling my destiny.  I had to learn this after having some of my stuff be held up by fear and unbelief wavering in my faith.  The blood of Jesus has set us free and when we don’t walk in the revelation and blessing of that freedom, we deny its power from operating in our lives.  I’m determined to get my stuff back, ALL OF IT and then SOME!!!!

Here is a little bit about her book:

“Bone of His Bones” is the book for you to explore and get the wisdom and understanding of why God created man for woman and woman for man to rule and have dominion over the whole earth together.  Don’t waste another minute wishing and dreaming that you can have the life that you desire when the answers that you seek lies within as a hidden treasure!  I am excited for you because your future is bright and full of sharing, caring, and plenty of warmth from the arms of the one you’ve been waiting to behold and to be held in the eyes of a loving Father who wants to give you the desires of your heart.

For more information about the Author email her at: Prs31woman@yahoo.com or friend her on Facebook www.facebook.com/ProphetessShemicaHuff

After reading Bone of His Bones, as a woman whether married or single, you will be blessed! Let’s show my sister some love by getting a copy of her book, and getting to know her better of social media. Her book is available on amazon.com and will be available on another platforms soon. Her Author Page is under construction and more information will be provided by Author on Facebook. Until next time, be inspired, be encouraged, and be you!!

Author Ben Burgess

SPOTLIGHTING AA AUTHORS!!!!

Meet Author Ben Burgess:

1.    Tell us a little bit about you and your books.
I grew up in Queensbridge which is located close to Astoria in Queens. I moved to Freeport, Long Island at the end of 7th grade.
I currently work in Law Enforcement. Being in that profession allows me to meet people every day, and it puts me in a lot of situations that are interesting and I can learn from them.
I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership.
I published my first book in 2008 entitled "Times Have Changed and Life is Strange. It is currently used in two schools on the Lower East side of Manhattan.
I’m married to my wife Lauren and I have a daughter named Jaelynn.

2.    How long have you been writing? I’ve been writing since the 8th grade.

3.    What inspired you to start writing?
When I was in the 8th grade, my English teacher Mrs. Marcus gave the class a poetry assignment. My poem was on basketball. I don't remember what I wrote, but I remember my teacher was blown away by it. She encouraged me to keep writing. She was one of my most influential teachers, and I promised her if I ever wrote a book, I would write a poem about the Holocaust for her (She was Jewish, and had family in it) my dream was to publish a book. I continued to write throughout high school and college. My college professors told me I had talent, so I decided to go to open mic and perform my poetry. Hearing people cheer for me and appreciate my words, inspired me to want to keep writing. My first published book was “Times Have Changed and Life is Strange.” It was a poetry book. I wrote a poem for Mrs. Marcus called “Holocaust” keeping my promise. The poem “Ugly” from “Times Have Changed and Life is Strange” is the poem that inspired me to write “Monster” I reflected on my life, and felt this would be a good story that would teach and possible change people’s lives. "Monster" is based off my life and experiences. After enduring some pretty interesting experiences, I believe that "Monster" is a story that can benefit everyone and it's a story that needed to be told. I was inspired to write it to teach people. I feel that people can learn from my mistakes. I wanted people to learn that:
1.    Every action has a consequence- It can be good or bad, but there is a result for everything we do.
2.    We need to take time to truly heal emotionally and mentally after a break-up. If we don't we are bound to bring that pain into future relationships.
3.    We need to be conscience of our actions. We never know the effects they can have on other people.
4.    In order to move forward in life, we have to learn to let go of negativity, and to forgive ourselves.

4.    What are your plans as far as writing in the future?
You can look forward to me constantly working on new books to stimulate people’s minds with. I’m working on my next book “Love and Happiness”, and I plan to have it published by February of 2014

5.    What do you hope to accomplish in your books to your readers?
I put my heart and soul into all of my writings. I constantly try to improve to become a better writer for myself and my fans. The message that I try to instill in my writing is, as people we should always strive to be better. We should always want to become better versions of ourselves. I also want people to see that whether they like it or not, no one is perfect. At some point even the “good guys/girls” aren’t so good. I try to make my books very realistic.

SPOTLIGHTING AA AUTHORS!!!!

Meet Author Renee Luke:

1.       Tell us a little bit about you and your books.
I'm an author, mother, sister, friend.... I write stories that I want to read, and I strive to my characters real, likeable, believable, and emotional.  I want readers to feel connected to the story and invested in the characters relationship. While generally, I write steam and erotic, they're romances to the core.  The women I write are women who would be my friends if they were real, and the men, well, the men are men I'd want my friends to date. Or better yet, men I'd date--if I were single. I believe in happily-ever-after’s, even if my characters still need convincing.
In addition to writing, I love to garden. Last summer, my youngest son and I planted a whole vegetable garden including a salsa garden, corn, carrots, and we even grew enough pumpkins that we didn't have to buy them for Halloween.   And, though he's only four, my little prince charming picked me fresh flowers almost daily.

2.       How long have you been writing?
I've been writing for as long as I can remember. When I was little we didn't have a TV until I was ten and my mama would read aloud to us. She read books like C.S. Lewis and E.B. Nesbit. Stories like The Hobbit, The Sandlot, just to name a couple. And without TV, I had time to imagine. I had time to write. I started with poetry, writing little poems about horses and butterflies. And then, when I was fourteen, my best friend committed suicide and my writing changed. Rather than entertainment, it became my escape and solace. The poems became short stories.
The short stories became romance novels a few years after I had my second daughter. I had been delivered a shipment of Harlequins and I gobbled them up. Once I discovered how much I loved romance novels, I found a few book stores and read everything I could find, until one day I got bored with the characters and plots and decided I would try to do better.

3.       What inspired you to start writing?
Well, this is sort of answered above where I discuss how long I've been writing, and what led me to writing romance novels. What inspires me now, however, is my desire to not only provide a better life for my children, but the importance of chasing your dreams. I want them to feel inspired by me in the same way I feel inspired by them.

4.       What are your plans as far as writing in the future?
Well, this is a fun question. I've got lots of goodies planned for the upcoming months. In April, after several years of being out of the publishing scene, I finally released a new book, Sweet Spot. In April, I released Alley Cat, which is a short story based on a night club called Night Kitty that we were first introduced to in Making Him Want It. And you’ll be seeing more of Night Kitty as well. I plan on releasing a full length novel with Night Kitty club making an appearance, as well as additional short stories that will be part of the A Night Kitty quickie series.
And Sweet Spot isn’t the only treat novella… coming next month, May, Body Butter will be available, followed by Cotton Candy in July.  I plan on doing enough of these tempting little stories that I’ll have enough sexy covers to make a calendar.
And outside of my lane, this summer I’ll be releasing a medieval erotic romance called Thou Art Mine… I love historical romance and cannot wait to see what the readers think of this story.

5.       What do you hope to accomplish in your books to your readers?
I want my readers to feel satisfied and happy when they’re finished reading. I write emotional characters and stories, but there is no deep issues or under the surface message. They are fun, feel good reads that will hopefully both satiate your desire, but also you leave you craving more.

SPOTLIGHTING AA AUTHORS!!!!

  1. Tell us a little bit about you and your books.
Ms. Heather Jornay Perkins, a true master mind at what she does. She is a beautiful and talented young writer who gives us her first novel entitled “Circles” Which one are you in? and her second novel "Circles 2 An Appetite For Sex"

Born and raised in Dallas, Texas in the South area where she took off by storm in the 6th grade, Heather Jornay Perkins never stopped writing and her mission was to be a very successful known writer, author, news reporter, or even a talk show host.

After the years passed by in 2001, she attended El Centro Community College and entered herself in the Poetry Contest where she was awarded with her winning poem, “Young Black Woman” was placed on poetry.com and was recognized as being the most uplifting poem for young black women. Her thoughts were overwhelming as her passion led her towards writing more children books, novels, plays, movie scripts, poetry, poems, and her first novel “Circles” Which one are you in?

“CIRCLES”, A HIGHLY RATED NOVEL THAT GRABS YOUR ATTENTION AND WILL KEEP YOU CRAVING FOR THE NEXT CHAPTER. This novel is BLAZING HOT AND READERS ARE ACTUALLY READING THE BOOK IN TWO DAYS! THE NEXT QUESTION THAT IS SIMMERING ON OUR MINDS, WHEN WILL IT BECOME A MOVIE?

Heather Jornay Perkins first interviewed with “Gary with Da T” at “Mocca Cosmetics Gala Event” on the “RED CARPET” and his question to her was, What should we all expect from you as a writer, an author, a beautiful young lady with the an accomplishment that some of us wish we could have done? The answer that she gave him was just as God for the ability “TO DO” and to keep him first. “Gary with Da T” smiled and loved what response she had given to the world and wished her more success at what she will seek next. Her last interview at FISHBOWL NETWORK with Ms. Kaimesha Nickerson with her show “Neovibe Radio” brought more attention to the listeners as the topic of “HIV” hit as a very sensitive major part inside the book, itself. The message inside the book reflects off this topic because the topic is always a mystery until it is solved.

She is the CEO of Black Access Granted (Jump iNSiDE the B.A.G. (
www.blackaccessgranted.com), the most popular Urban Marketing Firm in the Social Media Outlet. As she strives towards the best in all that she puts her heart into, her ambition leads her towards SUCCESS and her favorite quote that she always shares with others "The challenge is to never give up..."

Don't Cry For ME

In wake of National Poetry Month and all that has been taking place in the world, I felt inspired to write a short poem. I wanted to share it with you all. I hope you enjoy. God bless Our Nation! Until next time, be inspired, be encouraged and be you!

"Don't Cry For ME"

I looked around and saw him but it was too late,
The scream I thought could come stopped,
sat on my taste buds like my last meal,
I closed my eyes and waited realizing that
I was about to move on,
Move from a place called "land of the free" and
"home of the brave", a place where soulless people
lurk for their next victim.

As the darkness engulfed me and the tingling sensation
of pain tickled the back of my mind, I transformed...
A bitter-sweet world left behind,
Evil releasing its truest color described as heartlessness,
but a smile danced across my face knowing...knowing...
knowing that I was not alone.

A hand entwined with my own, a hushed comfort taking all
my worries away, I felt the presence of God wrapping me in his bosom,
I exhaled...
Yet, I wondered what would happen to the people not as fortunate as me
to finally go home, I wept for them, for they are still borrowers of time in
a place that isn't so free and cowards reign supreme...

I thought about being selfish and asking to stay, but being held in the arms
of My FATHER felt unbelievable, felt natural, felt too good to be true, but
I was...I am...I forever will be...So don't cry for ME, I am smiling, I am
laughing, I am living, I am being...

"FREE"

 Chapter 1

I asked the question, if one could describe me in just one word, what word would be used, to my close friends and family? The answers were both humbling and surprising in a good way. I didn’t know that so many people felt that I am their strength, joy, peace and other great adjectives, but the one that stood out most was “free”. As I sit here and look around, I am saddened because my life wasn’t always this way. I think back to the times when those kind words from the people that I love most could have possibly helped to keep me from making a lot of stupid mistakes. But hey, we live some, we learn some, and love can make us all do some crazy things.
Being in the limelight has both advantages and disadvantages, but the consequences of life will eventually catch up with you. I think back to the day I almost lost it all by keeping my personal life just that, personal. Who says that celebrities have to expose every detail of his or her life? What does it matter? We do what we do, and that should be enough. Wishful thinking, I guess because I wouldn’t be sitting here right now about to share my life in its entirety.
Just walking to the studio the other day, I passed by the same newspaper stand I stop at on my way to work, to buy a Celebrity Life magazine and guess what I saw? There, on the front page of Essence magazine was someone from my pass, smiling with his new wife and beautiful baby girl. At first, I was pissed because I gave that man some of the best years of my life. He looked good, I must admit, but why was I working strenuous hours, with little sleep, and getting underpaid when he was basking in the spotlight with the woman he cheated on me with. Life wasn’t fair by any means. I looked up to the sky and smiled, thanking God for delivering me just the same.
My publicist called me as soon as I entered the building asking a millions questions. I didn’t know what she was talking about, but she made it really clear that if I didn’t do something about the rumors, I would lose everything. I smiled at Susan, the receptionist in our building and walked over to the elevator. She didn’t make small talk with me as she usually did when I was waiting, so something was definitely up. She simply smiled a pity smile and looked back down to whatever had her attention.
The elevator door opened. I stepped inside. “Hold the door please,” I heard just before the doors closed. I used my freshly manicured hand to keep the doors from closing, hoping whoever was about to enter expressed his or her gratitude. I wasn’t prepared for was happened next.
He was gorgeous to say the least, with piercing, deep slanted, light brown eyes, a freshly shaved head and dimples to treasure in a museum. His skin, the color of brown sugar, and I could tell from the way his shirt hugged his body that he hid muscles underneath. I love a brother who takes care of himself. I love the gym. Once upon a time, I lived in the gym. I was still a regular jogger, so I knew that I looked good in my firm fitting business suit, and deadly Manolo Blaniks.
“Thanks. I really appreciate it,” the breathtakingly handsome gentleman said. “Oh, no problem at all,” was all I managed to reply. I pushed the seventeenth floor button. He smiled. I almost drowned in the wetness between my legs. What where the odds of us getting off on the same floor? Needless to say, we did. I walked from the elevator to give him a little eye-candy, and then turned quickly to see if he was looking, which he was and that million dollar smile should have been enough to walk away, but I ignored all the sense God gave me. I would later have him for dinner or breakfast, maybe both over and over again.  Slow down, pump the brakes a minute. Back to the main dilemma, my career in jeopardy. That mysterious seduction of the elevator guy would just have to wait. Right now, I was about to embark on a painful journey down memory lane.
Cynthia was sitting in her seat deeply concentrating on whatever she was reading when I entered her office. She glanced in my direction and looked back to the interesting article on her desk. “What has you so uppity this beautiful afternoon,” I asked taking a seat in one of the oversized chairs facing Cynthia, my publicist and good friend for many years now.
When she finished reading what had her so engrossed, she tossed the magazine over to me. I looked down and frowned. It was the same Essence with my ex and his family occupying the front cover. “Pages 65-69 if you will,” Cynthia spat. “What is he talking about, Jazz? Tell me all of that stuff is not true. We have been friends for too long and I feel as though I don’t know anything about you.”
Turning to the given pages, I looked up at Cynthia. “What are you talking about? We are friends.” She raised an eyebrow in a questioning notion, and folded her arms defensively across her chest. “Oh really, I will wait until you finish and then we can just see about that!”
I began reading the article and almost cried when I finished. How could he? He promised never to speak about what happened in our marriage. Now it was everywhere. I should have never trusted that bastard. I did everything I could to make our marriage work and now this is how he tries to play me?  Well not good enough. Jazzlin Camille Banks was not going to just sit around and let him destroy the future I made for myself. If he wanted to play dirty, then I would roll with the punches, becoming the dirt queen.
There were things that no one knew but him. Things I wanted to take to the grave. If my family and friends found out that the things he spoke about were true, I won’t have anyone left in my corner. He just so conveniently left out the parts were he was threatening, abusing and manipulating the actions I was forced to result to. No, he wouldn’t tell that. He wanted to play the victim, get sympathy from all who would listen and believe his pathetic ass story. Not even, Jazz thought as she continued to read.
Tears betrayed Jazz as she placed the magazine on Cynthia’s desk. She was done crying over Drake Ellington and his lies. Now, here I am reneging on the promise I made myself years ago to never cry when it came to him again. Cynthia handed Jazz some tissue.
“Thanks,” I struggled to say. Wiping my face careful not to smear my makeup, I took a deep breath and composed myself. “Cynthia, the things he said are true but he didn’t mention the abuse, torture and him being the reason for it all. We promised to never bring it up again and he assured me that I could trust him. I wanted to tell you a long time ago, but I couldn’t. I am a person of my word. I didn’t want to go against that. I was almost healed from all of the horrible things he forced me to do, but now the whole world will know about them. What am I going to do Cynthia? I can lose everything!”
Cynthia knew from just looking at her dear friend that she was telling the truth. She walked around the desk and sit next to Jazz. She reached over and grabbed her hand. “Don’t worry. We will get through this and when we are done, he will have to pay you a lot of money.” Jazz managed a smile through all the sadness. “Thanks Cynthia, but it’s not about money. I just want my character restored. There are many people who I love and cherish who are going to look at me differently now. I pray that God warms their hearts.”
“Well, Jazz. If they are that special, they won’t believe a word of it. But be prepared to lose a few endorsements, contracts and contacts. People in this business are sharks, they will bite you and move on to the next, leaving you for dead. I will be with you along the way. I just need to know the truth so that I can intercept some of the bad press.” Cynthia paused a minute. “And Jazz, I know you not going to like this, but you have to do a press release. We have to say something. Just leave it all to me. I am on it. I got you girl!”
Cynthia got to her feet and was on the phone without seconds. Then she called an emergency staff meeting with her entire team. Everything was moving so quickly, but Jazz only thought about the question she asked her family and friends about her. Would their answers change once they found out the truth? That was just something she would have to face and live with when the time came.
Jazz thought back to when she was a little girl.  Her mother and father were always spoiling her and her siblings. They went places together every weekend, and then on Sunday morning they all went to church. Jazz loved music. She knew every song on the radio and song along; which her two sisters and brother hated. They would always hit her and tell her to shut up. When she joined the Sunbeam choir at church and led her first of many solos, they soon encouraged her to follow her passion for making others smile and surrender to God through her music.
Jazz loved those moments in her life. She used them to overcome the trials and tribulations throughout her journey. She and her siblings spoke several times a week. They all prayed together. It was hard not seeing them daily, but knowing they had her back, helped her adjust when she decided to move to Los Angeles to pursue her singing career when she graduated from college.
Thinking of her siblings, Jazz pulled out her cell phone. Although they all called her whenever things were going on in their lives for support, insight and advice, Jazz now found herself on the other side of the spectrum. It was all new to her. Everyone came to her in their times of trouble, so this was something totally out of her element. She pressed speed dial number three, and within seconds she was speaking with her brother Trent.
Trent was the eldest of the four Banks clan, always being overprotective of the three Banks girls, as everyone who knew them, called her and her two sisters. His voice smiled when he heard it was her on the other end of the line. “What up Jazzie? I was just thinking of you girl. Where you at? I thought you had a big meeting today and whatnot.” She already felt better just hearing Trent’s voice. “Hey big brother, you have a minute or two? I really need some advice and help right now. Can you pray with me? I can really use the strength as we speak bro.”
Trent was in the middle of driving, so he pulled over to the side of the road to give his little sister his undivided attention. He was also caught off guard. Jazz was always the one he and his other sisters called in their time of crisis. If she was calling, there was definitely something terrible going on. “What’s up Jazz?  This sounds real serious.” Jazz sighed. That was an understatement.
“It is. It is about Drake.” Now it was Trent’s time to sigh. He didn’t care much for Drake when he was married to his sister, and now he was trying to come back into their lives. Not if he had anything to do with it. His sister had gone through hell and back with that dude. Only the grace of God kept him alive. Trent wanted to kill him, would have, if Jazz hadn’t begged him not to. He remembered that day like yesterday.
Pushing the painful memory to the back of his mind, Trent began praying for his sister, who wept into the phone. Yes, she was in pain. Trent wanted to know now more than ever, what Drake had to do with that fact. If he had done anything to cause Jazz more pain, Trent told himself that he would be on the next plane to wherever he lived and whip his ass. No one messed with his family, especially his sisters. His father always told him to look out for his sisters, protect them, no matter the circumstances and to this very day, he had done just that. His father would be proud if he didn’t have Alzheimer’s and lived in a retirement home for special needs in Florida. Summer was approaching and they would be together and see him then. Shaking the sadness from his heart, Trent prayed with Jazz like never before and by the time they got off the phone, she felt hopeful, strength, and encouraged to endure any situation thrown at her. Little did she know that she would need every ounce and then some because Drake was about to storm her life like a tsunami.
